I looked into the mirror this morning and I saw…ME!!!
I saw my skin colour…
But today, I chose to look beyond it
I chose to let it not limit me
And to neither let it define me
I saw my Femininity
But today, I decided to disregard it
I chose to feel neither inferior
Nor empowered by it
I looked into the mirror this morning and I saw… ME!!!
Silently I took myself in
Stripping myself of all the labels that had been given to me
I saw my “intelligence” lying beside my eye-glasses on my bed-side table
My “elegance” lying beside my fake pearls
My “simple beauty” hidden under my weave with my natural hair
My “sweetness” concealed along with my “white grin”
And I realised that without them…I am still ME!!!
I looked into the mirror this morning and I saw…ME!!!
Undefined!!! Simply ME!!!
